Open-air cinema in Amsterdam-Noord

I am a huge fan of open-air cinema. Who wants to seat inside a cinema theatre on a hot-summer’s night anyway? Just think of the cool breeze, and a tasty cocktail or the good old “vaasje” (pint) of beer, paired with a good movie. For an open-air cinema experience in Amsterdam-Noord, here are  three places I came across:

1. Pllek: Cinema Under the Stars

On Tuesdays Pllek hosts their Suncreenings. Wait for the sunset to enjoy a cinematic experience like no other and mingle with the colorful crowd, enjoying a cocktail or two. Screenings start between 22:00 and 22.30 hrs. For the program and the upcoming movie agenda, check Pllek’s website or their facebook page.

2. Tolhuistuin: CINEBLEND Summer Nights at the Tuin

CINEBLEND Open Air offers high-quality cinema with a selection from the archives of the EYE Film Museum. You can enjoy features from the early years of film in South-Africa, Suriname, and Indonesia. The next screening is on the 11th of July with a visual and musical journey through the former Ottoman Empire. More screenings are on 8th August and 12th September.

  • Dates: 11th Jul, 8th Aug, 12th Sep
  • Price: € 12,50
  • Address: Tolhuisweg 5

3. De Ruimte: ‘Soul Power’ on the Terrace

On the 29th of July you can enjoy a soulfoul summer movie-night with the documentary “Soul Power”, about the first large and legendary music festival in Africa, Zaire’ 74. On screen you’ll see performances by James Brown, Miriam Makeba, Bill Whiters, and the Crusaders, to name only a few. Before and after the screening the terrace of De Ruimte will be open for dancing, with a proper DJ battle. Yes!

… Ofcourse, you can also set up your own Pop-Up Open-Air Cinema between the trees, somewhere in the green in Noord, and invite friends and neighbours to join in, … NETFLIX bingwatching?
